Biography
Wilhelm came from the Westphalian noble family of the Gengebachs . His father, Eberhard II, is the lord of Geimbach and Hengebach, and his mother, Jutta, is the daughter of Count Julich Wilhelm I [1] .
In 1207, Count Julich William II the Great died, surviving his only son. As a result, Wilhelm von Gengebach, the son of his sister Jutta, inherited Julich. The possession of the father received the younger brother of William II - Eberhard III .
In 1209, Wilhelm was transferred control of Mölbach with surrounding forests with the title of Palatine Lensstücken [2] .
Wilhelm as part of the army, commanded by the future archbishop of Cologne Engelbert II of Berg , his brother Adolf III of Berg and the Austrian Duke Leopold VI , took part in the Albiguian Crusade [3] .
In 1214, William II went on the Fifth Crusade . He died during the siege of Damietta in Egypt, as evidenced by an act dated 1218. The eldest son William IV succeeded him [1] .
