Biography
Issam (baptized by John) was born on May 4, 1945 in Damascus, Syria. In 1965 he entered the monastic order of the Melkite Basilians. From 1965 to 1972 he studied at the Theological University of the Holy Spirit, who graduated with a bachelor's degree in theology and philosophy. and on September 17, 1972, Issam John Darwish was ordained a priest , after which from 1972 to 1976 he was engaged in teaching. From 1976 to 1978 he was the director of the orphanage. In the following years, he founded several adult training centers.
On April 9, 1996, Pope John Paul II appointed Issam John Darwish Bishop of the Diocese of St. Michael in Sydney. On May 11, 1996, Issam John Darwish was ordained bishop by the Melkite Patriarch Maxim V Hakim , accompanied by the titular bishop of Palmyra of Melkite, Francois Abuh Mokh and Archbishop Zahle and Furzol Andrei Haddad.
On June 25, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI appointed Issam John Darwish as Archbishop of Zahle and Furzol.
