Biography

Born on May 1, 1914 in the town of Zbarazh. In 1937 he came to Rome to study.

On April 2, 1939, he was ordained priest by Dionysius Nyáradi . In 1950, he arrived in Australia, where he became involved in pastoral ministry among immigrant Ukrainians [2] .

On May 10, 1958, Pope Pius XII appointed John Praschko the titular Bishop of Zigris and the Apostolic Exarch of Australia. On October 19, 1958, John Praszko was ordained as a bishop by the Winnipeg Archbishop Maxim Germanyuk, in cooperation with the auxiliary bishop of Philadelphia and the titular bishop of Leukas John Butsko and the Bishop of Toronto, Isidor Boretsky.

On June 24, 1982, the Apostolic Exarchate of Australia was transformed into the diocese of Saints Peter and Paul in Melbourne and John Prashko became its first bishop.

December 16, 1992 John Prashko retired.

He died on January 28, 2001 in Melbourne. The requiem service took place in the Cathedral Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Melbourne. [1] .

In the name of Ivan Praschka, he named the museum of Ukrainian art created in 1979 at the Cathedral of the Holy Supreme Apostles Peter and Paul in Melbourne [3] .
