It was formerly known as the Independent Jose Teran .
History
The club was founded by Jose Teran , a football fan from Sangolka, on March 1, 1958 . Two years after the death of its founder, in 1977, the club was renamed Independent Jose Teran. Initially, the club colors were red and white, and they were taken from the famous Argentinean Independiente .
In 1995, the team first made it to the “Second Category” (division) of Ecuadorian football, after which the name of the club changed to modern, and club colors became blue and black. Translated from Spanish, the full name of the club translates as "Club of Special High Achievements" Independents from the Valley "" . In total, in the “Second category”, the third most important division of the championship of Ecuador, the club spent 23 full seasons.
In 2007, a team from Sangolka achieved a class upgrade by moving to Serie B , Ecuador’s second-oldest division. After just two seasons, Independiente, having won the championship in Serie B, went to Serie A - the top division, where he still plays [2] .
The highest achievement besides winning the Serie B is the 2nd place in Serie A in the 2013 season. Thanks to this, the team debuted in the Libertadores Cup in 2014.

However, the most successful for the team was the year 2016, when Independiente del Valle managed to reach the finals of the main club tournament in South America. The team started the tournament from the preliminary stage, as it was the bronze medalist of the Ecuador Championship. Thanks to a goal scored in a foreign field , Independiente overcame the Paraguayan “Guarani” . At the group stage, Ecuadorians managed to get ahead of the experienced Chilean Colo-Colo , as well as the Peruvian Melgar , skipping ahead only the Brazilian Atletico Mineiro . In the 1/8 finals, Independiente del Valle knocked out the current winner from the tournament - the Argentinean River Plate (2-0 home win, 0-1 away defeat). At the 1/4 final stage, the team of Uruguayan coach Pablo Repetto overcame the resistance of the Mexican Pumas thanks to the victory in the 5: 3 penalty shoot-out. In the semifinals, the Ecuadorian club fought with the six-time winner of the Libertadores Argentinean Boca Juniors Cup. Independente del Valle won both matches (2: 1 at home and 3: 2 away) and became the third Ecuadorian team to reach the final of the Libertadores Cup. In decisive matches, the team lost to the Colombian Atletico Nacional (1: 1 at home, 0: 1 away).
