Bishop Nicholas ( Nikolai Gavrilov Kozhukharov in the world; April 17, 1908 , the village of Resen (now Veliky Tirnovskaya oblast ) - July 19, 1981 , Sofia ) - bishop of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church , bishop of Makariopol.

Biography

In 1932-1935 - Secretary of the Vratsa Metropolis . In 1936-1939 he served as the protosynkel of the same department [1] in the rank of archimandrite .

In 1941-1944 - rector of the Sofia Theological Seminary [2] .

In 1943, together with archimandrites Joseph (Dikov) and Stefan (Nikolov), he visited Vinnitsa as members of the public and subsequently joined the corresponding propaganda campaign to alert the public about the Katyn execution [3] .

After the Communists came to power in Bulgaria, he was arrested and sentenced in 1945 by the People's Court in the Katyn case to five years in prison, confiscation of property (mainly books), and a fine of BGN 100,000. Together with him, Stefan (Nikolov) and Joseph (Dikov) were convicted [4] .

After the conclusion, he worked as a librarian , editor of the synodal editions and head of the Liturgical Department at the Holy Synod. The author of many articles, sermons, translations of liturgical books [5] .

In December 1953 he was appointed rector of the Sofia Theological Academy and was appointed bishop with the title Makariopolsky [6] .

On January 3, 1954 he was consecrated to the vicar bishop of Makariopol.

In 1973, relieved of the post of rector of the Sofia Theological Academy. Appointed an employee of the Department for Cultural and Educational Affairs of the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Church [7] .

Died July 19, 1981 in Sofia.
