Academic career
Lam received a bachelor's degree from the University of Hong Kong in 1963, and a Ph.D. - At Columbia University in 1967, under the direction of Hyman Bass . His dissertation was entitled On Grothendieck Groups . [2] For one year, he worked as an instructor at the University of Chicago , and then moved to the University of California , in 1976, receiving a professor position. In 1995-1997 he was deputy director of MSRI . [one]
Awards and prizes
In 1972-1974, Lam was the recipient of Sloan 's scholarship , and in 1981-1982 - Guggenheim scholarships . In 1982, he was awarded the Steele Prize for his book Algebraic theory of quadratic forms , as well as for his articles.
Since 2012, he is a full member of the American Mathematical Society . [3]
