Biography
He studied philosophy and medicine, then graduated from the University of Lyon , defending a diploma in the history of French music of the XVIII century. From 1902 he worked as a music journalist in city publications, in 1903 he founded and headed the monthly magazine Revue musicale de Lyon (since 1912 - Revue française de musique ). During the First World War he was drafted into the army as a doctor. After demobilization, he again published the newspaper Nouvelle Revue musicale in 1920-1925. He defended his thesis “Music in Lyon for a Hundred Years, 1688-1789” ( fr. Un siècle de musique à Lyon, 1688-1789 ; published in 1932). He taught at the Lyon Conservatory, then in 1928-1930 - at the Sorbonne and in 1930-1931 in the USA. In 1937-1943 - President of the French Society of Musicology.
The main works of Wallace are detailed biographies of French composers: Claude Debussy and his time ( Fr. Claude Debussy et son temps ; 1932, reprint 1958), Vincent d'Andy (in 2 volumes, 1946-1949), True History Cesar Franca ”( Fr. La Véritable Histoire de César Franck ; 1955).
