Vadim Aleksandrovich Kondakov (March 27 (April 8) 1886 , Osa of the Perm province - May 25, 1959 , Kazan ) - a famous Ural geographer, teacher, professor, teacher of the methodology of biological and geographical sciences of the pedagogical faculty of Perm University ( 1923 - 1930 ), dean of the first Ural, Faculty of Geography, Perm Industrial and Pedagogical Institute [1] (1930-1947), head. Department of Geography and School of Local Lore, Kazan Pedagogical Institute (1947-1953), corresponding member of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the RSFSR . One of the founders of geographical education in the Urals , compiler of the first Soviet educational map of the Urals . Grandfather of the philologist B.V. Kondakov and the philosopher I.V. Kondakov .

Biography
Born in a teacher’s family. He graduated in 1897 from the city primary school, and in 1905 - from the Perm Men's Gymnasium .
In 1911 he graduated from the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Kazan University (where he studied for a scholarship from a Perm philanthropist N.V. Meshkov ). A significant influence on the student was made by professor-botanist A. Ya. Gordyagin and professor of physics and physical geography D.A. Goldgammer .
The first years after the university he taught at the educational institutions of Ufa : the Ufa Gymnasium, the city real school and the teacher's institute (until 1917). During the years of the revolution and the civil war, he taught at the Yekaterinburg Teachers 'Institute, Tomsk Tatar Teachers' Seminary and at Siberian Higher Women's Courses (until 1920). Later he served as deputy head of the department of public education of the executive committee of the Biysk district council (until 1922).
After that, in 1922 he returned to Perm , where at first he worked in Perm Gubono.
From 1923 to 1930 he taught methods of biological and geographical sciences at the pedagogical faculty of Perm University . Until 1932 he also taught at the Ural Metallurgical Institute and the university.
In 1930, after the transformation of the Faculty of Education of Perm University into a Pedagogical Institute , V. A. Kondakov became the first dean of the Faculty of Geography and the head of the Department of Physical and Economic Geography.
One of the students, in the future professor of biology A.N. Ponomarev, recalled:

Since 1941 - professor; Until 1947, he combined the post of dean of the Faculty of Geography and the head. Department of Physical and Economic Geography, Molotov State Pedagogical Institute .
Under the leadership of V. A. Kondakov, the first Soviet educational map of the Urals was compiled.
In 1945, V. A. Kondakov was elected a corresponding member of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences .
In 1947, he left for Kazan, and before retiring in 1953, he worked as head. Department of methods of geography and school regional studies of the geographical faculty of Kazan Pedagogical Institute .
He died on May 25, 1959.
Scientific and social activities
Corresponding member of the APN of the RSFSR since 1945. He was a member of the Geographical Society of the USSR , a full member of the Ural Society of Natural History Lovers (WOLES) .
Engaged in public activities, was elected a deputy of the Biysk City Council, Perm Regional and City Councils, Dzerzhinsky District Council of Kazan.
Rewards
He was awarded the Order of Lenin , the medal "For Valiant Labor in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. ", The sign" Excellent student of public education . "
