Biography
In 1810, John Paulding joined the Benedictine monastic order, where he adopted the monastic name Bid. On March 4, 1819, John Bid Paulding was ordained a priest , after which he served at the Downside School at Downside Abbey, Somerset County . From 1826 to 1844 he was Secretary General of the English province of the Benedictine Order.
On July 3, 1832, Pope Gregory XVI appointed John Bid Paulding the titular bishop of Hierocesaria and the Apostolic Vicar of the Apostolic Vicariate of New Holland and Vendimen Land. On June 29, 1834, John Bid Paulding was ordained bishop by the Apostolic Vicar of the Apostolic Vicariate of the London area and titular Bishop of Usula James York Bramston, accompanied by the auxiliary bishop of the Apostolic Vicariate of the London area and titular Bishop Olena Thomostomie Rushuz.
On April 5, 1842, the Holy See transformed the Apostolic Vicariate of New Holland and Vandymene Land into the Diocese of Sydney and John Bead Paulding became its first ordinary . A few days later, on April 22, 1842, the Diocese of Sydney was elevated to the rank of archdiocese and John Bid Paulding became its first archbishop.
In 1868, began the restoration of the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who suffered from the fire.
Died March 16, 1877 in Sydney.
