Biography
Wilhelm succeeded his father in the county of Julich in 1328. In the years 1331-1332 he spent a lot of money, but he achieved the election of his brother Valram Julichsky as archbishop of Cologne.
Marrying Jeanne d'Aven, the daughter of Count Eno Wilhelm I and Jeanne de Valois , became a relative of the Emperor Ludwig of Bavaria , married to Margarita d'Aven , the sister of Jeanne, and the English king Edward III , married to another sister, Philippe de Eno .
In 1336, Emperor Ludwig IV made Julich margrave, and his successor Charles IV in 1356 became a duchy. As Margrave and Duke, the ruler of Julich adopted the name William I.
