The first coastal lunette is an element of the Dinaburg fortress located in the city of Daugavpils ( Latvia ).
Location
It is located in front of the Nikolaev gates of the fortress, in front of the moat and the main rampart of the fortress, between the seventh and eighth bastions. The edge of the moats and ramparts of the lunette is occupied by a dam along the banks of the Daugava , along it along the fortress is Daugavas Street . Over the river is the bridge cover of the fortress.
History
It was built during the construction of the fortress, a triangular-shaped point on the river, a wide base to the gate, ended with a stone eskarpovy wall, there was a ramp for going into the moat. On the territory of the lunette there was a guardroom (guardroom, an area of 84 m²) with an intermediate gate. A wooden bridge was thrown across the moat to the gate. In the 1920s, the bridge was demolished, instead of it an earthen embankment was built to the gate. The path to the river bank to the floating bridge to the Bridge cover passed along the lunette. In 1833-1841, a dam was constructed along the river bank according to the project of P. P. Melnikov . With the passage of the Petersburg-Warsaw Railway in the 60s of the XIX century, the need for a floating bridge disappeared, it was replaced by a railway bridge.
The project of the coastal lunette was developed in 1826, the construction was supposedly carried out in 1826-1831. The length of the right and left facets of the lunette is approximately 60 m. The length of the escarp wall is approximately 110 m. The height of the lunette from the bottom of the moat of the fortress is 6.5–7 m. The height of the shaft from the bottom of the dry moats along the faces of the lunette is 4 m. [1]
At 250 meters along the shore is the Second Coastal Lunette Fortress.
