Patrick Ryan is an American athlete of Irish descent. At the 1920 Olympics, he won a gold medal in hammer throw with a score of 52.875 meters and a silver medal in throwing weight at 56 pounds.

The champion of Ireland won the hammer throw 11 times. In 1910 he emigrated to the United States, where he began to work in the New York police. On August 17, 1913, at competitions in New York, he set the first official world record in hammer throw - 57.77 m. In total, he became the US champion in hammer throwing 7 times and 2 times the US champion in throwing 56 pounds. During World War I, he joined the U.S. Army and served in France. In 1924 he returned to Ireland.
