On May 16, 1944, the first Decree of the Supreme Council of the USSR Armed Forces was issued on awarding the Order of Ushakov I degree - For successful actions during the liberation of Crimea Rear Admiral Boltunov and Lieutenant General Aviation Yermachenkov . But the badge of the Order of Ushakov of the 1st degree with No. 1 was awarded to Vice Admiral V.F. Tributs, who then commanded the Red Banner Baltic Fleet and was awarded the Decree of July 22, 1944.
In March 1945, Rear Admiral Boltunov was removed from the post of head of the scuba diving department for the death at our base of the Romanian captured submarine TS-2.
On the afternoon of February 20, 1945, in an attempt to retrieve a German torpedo “G7a” from a torpedo launcher on a TS-2, in the port of Poti, an explosion occurred in the torpedo's charging compartment. According to the commission investigating the disaster, the explosion occurred as a result of premature removal of the longitudinal torpedo beam. The torpedo abruptly lifted its nose up and hit the charging compartment on the incoming parts of the hull. As a result of the accident, 14 people were killed, and the boat itself, despite being in the port, sank after 65 minutes, because of the confusion of personnel, the struggle for the survivability of the ship was not waged. Eight days later, the “TS-2” was lifted from a depth of 6 meters by the emergency rescue service of the Black Sea Fleet and towed to Sevastopol to carry out restoration repairs. The dead crew members are buried in the city cemetery in Poti. According to the results of the organizational conclusions, the head of the mine and torpedo department of the Black Sea Fleet captain 2nd rank A.P. Dubrovin, the flagship miner of the Black Sea Fleet captain 1st rank S.V. Rogulin and the commander of the submarine division Hero of the Soviet Union B.A. Alekseev were reduced by one step, head of the scuba diving department Rear Admiral P. I. Boltunov removed from office, rear commander Rear Admiral S. E. Chursin and his chief of staff captain 2nd rank ND Novikov were severely reprimanded. The commander of “TS-2” Alinovsky “for systematic drunkenness, the breakdown of discipline and the organization of service” was put on trial by a military tribunal [1] .

From 1952 to 1953 - Deputy Chief of the Naval General Staff for Submarine Forces.
From April 1953 until his death, he served as deputy chief of the Directorate of Combat Training of the General Staff of the Navy.
He died on January 13, 1956 .
He was buried at the Vagankovsky cemetery in Moscow.
