About the song

“Leave in Silence” appeared in four versions. For the single version, a small interlude at the end was removed from the landscape version. There is also a longer version, and a “quieter” one ( Quieter ) - this is a version almost “ a cappella ”, only small music samples were left in it. A longer version of the song replaces the landscape one on the American and Japanese versions of A Broken Frame .

Side “B” is “Excerpt From: My Secret Garden” - an instrumental version of “My Secret Garden” - a song that, along with “Leave in Silence”, will appear a little more than a month later on A Broken Frame . “Further Excerpts From: My Secret Garden” is a longer version, it has been included as a bonus track in the American and Japanese versions of A Broken Frame .

In February 2006, during a tour in support of the playing the Angel album , “Leave in Silence” was sung by Martin Gore in front of a Parisian audience and remained on the set list until the end of the tour. This was the first live performance of a song from A Broken Frame for nearly two decades, when “Leave in Silence” was performed during a tour in support of Black Celebration in 1986. Also, after 7 years, the song was again sung by Martin Gore at one of the concerts of the tour in support of the Delta Machine album.

Music video

The video for the song was directed by Julien Temple [2] . In it, the group members break up different things, and also talk to each other, while their faces are painted in different colors. The band did not like this video, and was not included in the 1985 Great Some video collection.
