Peter Vasilyevich Mikhailov (January 1832 , Vologda - October 22, 1906 , Moscow ) - Tomsk mayor , merchant of the first guild , patron of the arts . He financed a number of projects for the improvement of Tomsk, his name is Mikhailovsky Grove in the city.

Biography
Merchant
Pyotr Mikhailov was born in 1832 in Vologda to the family of burghers . Educated at the county school. After graduating from college began to help his father in commercial activities. In 1852 he arrived in Tomsk, where he later founded the trading house Petrov and Mikhailov with his partner [3] . The company traded a wide variety of products - tea, sugar, fabrics, clothing and other goods. The sales market is not only Tomsk, but also Barnaul , Semipalatinsk , Ust-Kamenogorsk , Verny , Irbit and Moscow region . In terms of trade, Petrov and Mikhailov were second only to Evgraf Kukhterin and his sons [3] .
The building of the Petrov and Mikhailov firm has reached our time (Millionnaya Street, 6 - now Lenin Avenue , 82b). In 1896, Petrov decided to get out of business, and from 1902 the enterprise began to bear the name Mikhailov and Malyshev. Architect - Victor Khabarov . Nowadays the building is an architectural monument [4] .
In 1870, P. Mikhailov built a wax candle factory in Tomsk. In 1881–1882, together with Zachary Tsibulsky, he founded another factory, this time for the production of bricks [3] (it became the first brick factory in Siberia).
Town governor and philanthropist
In 1883, Mikhailov was elected to the post of mayor. He was in this position until 1887, and then again in 1891-1894. During this time, with his direct participation and patronage in Tomsk, the first vocational school, the first free library in Russia, and a free out-patient clinic for the poor were built [3] .
Contributed to the completion of the Trinity Cathedral [5] (including personally paid part of the costs), as well as a number of churches in Tomsk and other cities of the country, the Episcopal Church of the Cross (in our time - the organ hall of the Tomsk Philharmonic ). Despite such impressive achievements, the petition of the committee for the construction of the Trinity Cathedral for the award of P. Mikhailov the title of honorary citizen of the city of Tomsk was rejected [6] .
Mikhailov was under the patronage of the Mariinsky Women's Gymnasium , as well as local elementary schools and shelters [3] [4] , the Resurrection Parish and Alekseevskoe real schools.
When he was in Tomsk, a number of city streets were pavement, the first water supply system in the city was built, he donated the first fire engine to the Tomsk Volunteer Fire Society. Thanks to him, a children's hospital was opened in Tomsk (now Polyclinic No. 1) - the widow Alevtina Petrovna transferred 100 thousand rubles for the construction according to the will of her husband [3] .
In 1893, together with the merchant Sibiryakov, they erected the building of the Museum of Applied Knowledge . For 35 years he was the head of the Epiphany Church.
Mikhailovsky Grove
In the 19th and early 20th centuries, Mikhailov owned a large land plot in the grove , which later, in his honor, would be called Mikhailovskaya. The other part of the grove was owned by Mikhailov’s companion, the merchant Malyshev. Both landowners built an estate in the grove, the foundations of which have been preserved until now (2017). Later Mikhailov opened a grove for free visits. In the grove there were gazebos , benches , roads for horseback riding and hiking, artificial grottoes , springs , a network of fountains , rare species of trees were planted. According to data for 2017, remains of fountains and gazebos have survived in the grove [7] .
Heritage
He died in Moscow in October 1906. He was buried in the fence of the Tomsk Cathedral . With the destruction of the cathedral in the 1930s, the same fate befell the burial.
Currently, Mikhailovsky Grove is a reminder of the activities of Peter Mikhailov, as well as the buildings erected with his participation - among them the first buildings of the current Medical and Polytechnic Universities, built from bricks produced at its factory.
