Forbs

Forbs - a community of herbaceous plants , formed by numerous species of herbs , with the exception of cereals , legumes and sedge . It occurs in grasses of various types of meadows and steppes , prevails at the initial stages of the formation of grassy communities (for example, when clearing forest areas) or as a result of disturbance of meadow vegetation (for example, due to overgrazing). It can occur in areas oversaturated with organic fertilizers or during the death of cereals due to overmoistening of floodplain meadows .

Distinguish types of herbs by environmental and biological characteristics and their economic importance. Some herbs have a relatively high feed value and are well eaten by farm animals, others are unsuitable or completely unsuitable for grazing due to poor eatability or even toxicity of their constituent species.

Among the plants of this group, according to the nature of the shoot formation, they distinguish:

• rooted ( goat-breeder , chicory , saxifrage feminine , caraway seeds )
• root shoots ( Austrian wormwood , creeping euphorbia , elecampane , field bindweed )
• rhizome plants ( yarrow , coltsfoot , veronica longifolia , yellow bedstraw )
• bush perennials with branched fibrous roots ( meadow cornflower , ranunculus )
• creeping (creeping buttercup , goose cinquefoil )
• rosette ( medium plantain , wilderness )
• bulbous ( lily , tulip , onion )
• tuberous ( valerian tuberous , crested tuber )

Forbs occupy from 10 to 60% of the grass stands of various types of meadows. Mountain meadows are especially rich in forbs. In agriculture, grasses are used for livestock feed only on naturally formed pastures , grasses are not allowed on cultivated forage lands.
