Biography

Born January 22, 1793 in Dervio , in Lombardy , on the shores of Lake Como , and came from a noble family. The first years of his childhood he spent in Tirano , in Valtellin , where his father was the head of the state property management. then Rubini studied at Collegio Gallico, in Como , and then at the University of Pavia , where he graduated from the course.

In 1822, he settled in Munich , taking, at the invitation of General Tausch, the head of the Cadet Corps , the place of a teacher of Italian in the corps, and on July 20, 1824 he went to Russia , “looking forward to seeing a country which, under wise management and under fatherly "in the care of his Sovereigns, is taking such quick steps in the field of education." He arrived in Petersburg on August 7 with a letter of recommendation from the Queen of Bavarian Carolina to her sister, Empress Elizabeth Alekseevna .

Roubini spent the summer of 1825 in Tsarskoye Selo , and "did not avoid the various accidents that any young man is exposed to, being alone, away from his homeland." Here, in the house of Count Yu. P. Litta , he met Karamzin , who presented him with a French translation of " History of the Russian State ", made by Saint-Thomas ( French St.-Thomas ) and Jouffre ( French Jouffret ), and upon moving to St. Petersburg was introduced to A. S. Shishkov , Minister of Education .

With his help, Roubini was accepted into the Russian service on August 17, 1826 and was appointed a teacher of Italian at the Moscow University Noble Boarding House , and soon (February 11, 1827) received the Department of Italian Language and Literature at Imperial Moscow University. On March 13, 1843, Roubini accepted Russian citizenship, and on August 17, 1851, after serving 25 years, was, on the proposal of the university council, approved by the lecturer for another 5 years. In 1862, Rubini still lectured. The time of his death is unknown.

Compositions

Roubini's first published book was Cours grammatical de la langue Italienne (M. 1828), with a dedication to Empress Alexandra Feodorovna , who granted the author a golden snuffbox on December 17, 1828; Pope Leo XII sent Rubini for presenting this book with a rosary and a gold medal when writing in Latin (which, by order of the university trustee A. A. Pisarev , was published in the Moscow Gazette ), and King Bavarian Ludwig - a gold medal with the inscription "Zum Andenken"; Rubini released the 2nd edition of this grammar in 1850.

In addition, the list of Rubini's books includes: 1) Scelta di Prose Italiane, with an Italian-French-Russian dictionary (M. 1832); 2) "L'Inferno di Dante", with commentary, M. 1838; 3) “Antologia Italiana Poetica del secolo decimo nono” (M. 1843-1844), with biographies of 26 Italian poets (incidentally, the artist S. Tonchi ), whose works are included in the collection; 4) “Dei doveri degli nomini”, Op. Silvio Pellico , with the Italian-French-Russian dictionary (M. 1849); 5) “Tre squarci tratti dal manoscritto della Storia Russa” (M. 1854, 8 °); 6) “Storia di Russia” (Torino. 1858, 8 °); R. worked hard on this book for more than 20 years and, while compiling it, apart from Karamzin, Ustryalov , Bantysh-Kamensky and other historians, foreigners told stories about Russia - Contarini , da Collot , Posevino , Herberstein , M. Bera , Zholkevsky, Petrei , Gordon , Manstein , Algarotti and others; 8) "Storia della letteratura Russa" (Firenze, 1862, 12 °), compiled with S.P. Shevyrev ; this book was considered by the 2nd branch of the Academy of Sciences and earned a very favorable review; I. I. Sreznevsky’s review of it was published in Notes of the Imperial Academy of Sciences , vol. II, vol. 2, St. Petersburg 1862.
