Biography
The son of the famous author of the “History of Medicine in Russia”, a physician-in-law and distinguished professor V. M. Richter , was born on April 20 ( May 1 ), 1799 . At the age of fourteen, Richter entered the department of medical or medical sciences at Moscow University , after completing his course he attended lectures in Dorpat , Göttingen and Berlin (from 04.11.1818 to 07.07.1820 [1] ). In 1821, returning to Moscow, he passed the exam for the degree of doctor of medicine, which he was awarded on January 18, 1822, having defended his thesis “De Cyanosi cardiaca, seu morbo sic dicto coeruleo”.
In December 1822, Richter was approved as an adjunct in the Department of Obstetrics, and from 1823 began to read at Moscow University lectures on the art of midwifery and its history, on women's and children's diseases. At the very beginning of his teaching, already on January 13, 1823, Richter received a diamond ring from Empress Maria Fyodorovna as a reward for the secondary publication of his father's work, The Guide to the Midwifery Art. Four years later, on July 22, 1827, Richter was approved as an extraordinary professor in the department of midwifery, and on January 7, 1828, as an ordinary professor in this department.
On May 29, 1829, Richter was appointed a professor at the Grading Institute of the Moscow Educational House , and on February 23, 1833, he was appointed Director of the Grading Institute and a midwife at the maternity hospital of the Moscow Educational House.
For his works on the fight against cholera, M. V. Richter was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir of the 4th degree on May 29, 1831. In 1834, Richter was elected a member of the school committee, and in 1835, with the introduction of the new charter, he was appointed to teach obstetrics, women's and children's diseases.
On July 22, 1842, Richter was granted a diamond ring with a monogram of the name of His Imperial Majesty " for performing, with a special art, over the dwarf of Caesar's section ." In 1845 he received the Order of St. Anne of the 2nd degree with the imperial crown.
In terms of length of service at the Ministry of Public Education for 25 years, Richter, with the permission of the minister, was left in the service of the university for another five years; On June 19, 1848, he was promoted to full state councilor and in 1851, he was dismissed from service at the university with the approval of the rank of Honored Professor (c 1850). In 1852 he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir of the 3rd degree; in 1857 - the Order of St. Stanislav 1st degree.
MV Richter was the director of the faculty clinic of Moscow University.
It is known that on March 17, 1866, he moved from Lutheranism to Orthodoxy. Since 1870 - the secret adviser.
He was buried in Moscow, in the Novospassky monastery .
