Moura, Wagner

Wagner Moura was born in Rodelas , Bahia , in the northeastern region of Brazil . His mother, Alderiva Moura, is a housewife, and his father, Jose Moura, is a sergeant of the Brazilian Air Force. At the age of 13, he and his family moved to Salvador, Bahia . He graduated from the Faculty of Journalism at Bahia Federal University, but decided to become an actor. In addition to his acting career, Wagner Moura is also a songwriter and vocalist of the band “Sua Mãe” (“Your Mother”).

In 1996, he participated in his first play, entitled "Cuida bem de mim." After that, he also played in other plays. He later began working in films, starting with the short film Pop Killer and the film Rádio Gogó. The following year, he took part in the film " Woman on Top " with Penelope Cruz in the title role.

He later moved to Rio de Janeiro , already marrying photographer Sandra Delgado. After auditioning on Brazilian television, he successfully made his debut in the television series Carga Pesada and Sexo Frágil. He became a very famous film and television actor in Brazil , but in 2007, his most noisy-acclaimed film work was the role of Captain Nascimento, protagonist of the Golden Bear Prize at the 2008 Berlin Film Festival , Elite Squad .

In 2010, he starred in the sequel to Elite Squad, Elite Squad 2 , cementing the status of one of the most talented Brazilian actors. In 2013, he played Spider in the science fiction film Elysium - a Paradise Not on Earth .

In 2017, he made his debut as a director, having shot a biographical film about the left city ​​partisan Carlus Marigella , who was killed by agents of the military dictatorship in 1969. In the 2018 elections, he supported the Party of Socialism and Freedom .

He has a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and is engaged in Thai boxing .
