Biography

Pavel Semenovich Vinogradov was born on December 18, 1901 in the village of Suvidovo in the Tver province [1] .

Civil War

In March 1919 he was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army , after which he took part in the hostilities in the North Caucasus as commander of a platoon of cadets.

Interwar

In 1921 he graduated from the Moscow infantry command courses, and in 1924 - district repeated courses of the middle command staff, after which he served as battalion commander, assistant chief of staff of the rifle regiment and head of the regimental school.

At the end of the advanced training courses for reconnaissance commanders in April 1929, Vinogradov was appointed assistant chief of the operational part of the headquarters of the 13th Dagestan Rifle Division ( North Caucasian Military District ), in May 1931 - to the post of chief of staff 37- th infantry regiment , and in January 1932 - to the post of chief of the 1st part of the headquarters of the 94th infantry division ( OKDVA , Siberian Military District ).

In April 1933, Vinogradov was sent to study at the MV Frunze Military Academy , after which from March 1936 he was at the disposal of the Red Army Intelligence Directorate and in October 1938 was appointed assistant commander of the 6th Infantry Division ( Oryol military district ), in August 1939 - as a teacher in the general tactics department of the MV Frunze Military Academy, in January 1941 - as a teacher in the Higher Special School of the General Staff, and in March 1941 - as chief of staff of the 46th rifle gun about the corps ( Kharkov Military District ).

World War II

At the beginning of World War II he was appointed to the post of chief of staff of the 25th Rifle Corps , which was part of the 19th Army , which was in the reserve of the Supreme Command , and in early July 1941 transferred to the Western Front , which included in the heavy fighting in the front counterattack in the region of Vitebsk during the Smolensk battle . In the second half of July, the enemy, breaking through the army’s defenses, surrounded the corps west of Smolensk . Since July 17, Colonel Vinogradov temporarily commanded the corps instead of the missing Major General S. M. Chestokhvalov . The corps under his command took part in the hostilities during the battle of Smolensk. On July 22, the corps was withdrawn to the reserve of the Western and then South-Western fronts , and on August 25 it was disbanded.

In September 1941, he was appointed commander of the 292nd Infantry Division , which occupied the defense on the eastern shore of Volkhov , which restrained the German advance on Tikhvin and was cut into two separate groups. Colonel P.S. Vinogradov then led one of these groups - the Vinogradov group, which with heavy battles retreated to the northeast and by November 3, 1941 concentrated the rest of the forces 2 km southwest of Tikhvin . Then P.S. Vinogradov, after injuring the commander of the 191st Infantry Division, Colonel Lukyanov, entered into the interim command of this division. For courage, courage and skillful leadership of the battle, Colonel Pavel Semenovich Vinogradov was awarded the Order of Lenin .

In December 1941, he was appointed to the post of chief of staff of the 4th Army, and in March 1942 - to the post of chief of staff of the 2nd shock army . In May 1942, he was appointed deputy chief of staff of the Volkhov Front .

In October 1942, Colonel P. S. Vinogradov, being in the battle formations of parts of the front, went missing.
