Kununurra [1] ( English Kununurra ) - a city in the north-west of Australia , in the state of Western Australia . It is the administrative center of the county of Wyndham East Kimberley .

Geographical position
The city is located in the north-eastern part of the state, in a hilly area, on the right bank of the Ord River, near the border with the Northern Territory . The absolute height is 51 meters above sea level [2] . Kununarra is located approximately 2,200 kilometers northeast of Perth , the state's administrative center. To the east of the city is the territory of the Hidden Valley National Park .

Demographics
According to the 2011 census, the population of Kununarra was 4,574 people [3] . The dynamics of the population of the city by years:

According to the 2006 census, 3,748 people lived in the city, of which 51.4% were men and 48.6% were women. 26.5% of the townspeople were representatives of the indigenous population of Australia (with an all-Australian indicator of 2.3%) [4] .
The population of the city by age range according to the 2006 census was as follows: 24.3% - residents under 14 years old, 14.3% - between 15 and 24 years old, 49.4% - from 25 to 54 years old, 8.4% - from 55 to 64 years old and 3.6% - at the age of 65 years and older. The median age was 31 years. The census also showed that 10.3% of citizens were born outside Australia, and 5.7% were citizens of other states. The UK is home to 2.8% of the city's inhabitants, followed by New Zealand (1.9%), South Africa (0.7%), Germany (0.6%) and the Netherlands (0.5%). For most Kununarra residents, their mother tongue is English ; many also know Australian ( Mirivung , China , Traju ), German and Dutch . The 2006 census showed that Catholics accounted for 23.5% of the confessional structure of the population. In second place is the group that considers itself atheists - 22.3%, followed by Anglicans - 13.5%, representatives of the United Church - 4.7% and representatives of other Protestant churches - 3% [4] .
Transport
To the west of the city is the airport of the same name . Also through the city passes the M1 motorway, connecting all the important cities of Australia.
