Biography

Ivan Kuznetsov was born on January 15, 1922 in the village of Popovka (now - Kesovogorsky district of the Tver region ). After graduating from four classes of the school, he worked first on the collective farm , then in the department of military construction work in Tver . In 1941, Kuznetsov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. From the same year - on the fronts of World War II. He was wounded three times in battles [1] .

By the fall of 1943, Junior Lieutenant Ivan Kuznetsov commanded an intelligence platoon of the 520th Infantry Regiment of the 167th Infantry Division of the 38th Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper . Before crossing the main forces of the regiment, Kuznetsov crossed the Dnieper with his comrades and carried out reconnaissance of the German defense and outlined the crossing point, after which they successfully captured the “language” and delivered it to command. November 4-5, 1943, participating in the battles for Kiev , a platoon of Kuznetsov inflicted heavy losses on the enemy and was one of the first to enter the city itself [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 10, 1944, for “exemplary execution of the combat missions of the command and the courage and heroism shown at the same time”, junior lieutenant Ivan Kuznetsov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 2449 [ 1] .

In March 1945, with the rank of captain Kuznetsov for disability, he was dismissed from the ranks of the Red Army. He lived and worked in Kalinin, in the Far East, and then in Kiev . He died on May 8, 1990, was buried in the Forest Cemetery of Kiev [1] .

He was also awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky , two orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, orders of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree, the Red Banner of Labor , the Red Star , a number of medals [1] .
