Biography

Ivan Kuznetsov was born on January 14, 1908 in the village of Novodovo (now the Shenkursky District of the Arkhangelsk Region ). After graduating from a seven-year school, from 1922 he lived in the village of Soroka , worked first as a carpenter at a sawmill, then as a worker in a river shipping company. In 1930, Kuznetsov was called up to serve in the troops of the OGPU USSR. In 1934 he graduated from the 4th school of border and internal security of the NKVD of the USSR, in 1941 - the Frunze Military Academy . From the first day of the Great Patriotic War - on its fronts. In the battles of Yelnya was seriously wounded [1] .

Since July 1944, Major Ivan Kuznetsov commanded the 413th Infantry Regiment of the 73rd Infantry Division of the 48th Army of the 1st Belorussian Front . Distinguished during the liberation of Poland .

In the course of the Lomza-Ruzhanskaya offensive on September 4, 1944, Kuznetsov's regiment successfully broke through the German defenses on the west bank of the Narew and captured the bridgehead, which he held up to the crossing of the main forces of the division [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated March 24, 1945, Major Ivan Kuznetsov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 6104 for “exemplary performance of command assignments and showing courage and heroism in battles with German invaders.” [1] .

After the war, Kuznetsov continued service in the Soviet Army. In 1957, in the rank of colonel, he was dismissed. He lived in Leningrad .

He died on December 20, 1992, was buried at the Volkovsky cemetery of St. Petersburg [1] .

He was awarded two Orders of Lenin, four Orders of the Red Banner , two Orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, Orders of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree and the Red Star , along with a number of medals [1] .
