Colonial Athletic Association Conference Basketball Player of the Year

The Colonial Athletic Association Men's Basketball Player of the Year is the annual basketball award that is awarded by voting to the best basketball player among students at the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) conference , part of the NCAA 1st Division. Voting is held among the head coaches of the teams participating in the conference (there are currently ten of them), in addition, the coaches give their votes after the end of the regular season , but before the start of the playoff tournament, that is, in early March, and they cannot vote for their own players. This award was established and first presented to Dan Rowland of James Madison University and Carlos Yeats of George Mason University in the 1982/83 season.

The conference officially began its activities in 1979, then it included ten teams, which was first called the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC South) , but in 1985 due to expansion by other sports it got its current name. Over time, with the formation of new universities, the number of teams in the conference increased to fourteen (currently there are twenty). In 2013, seven teams left the conference at once, and three came to replace them. In 2014, the number of teams in the conference increased to twenty-one, due to the joining of the teams of Elon and Fairfield Universities and the transfer to another conference of the team of the University of Pennsylvania .

Eight players: David Robinson , Steve Hood , Odell Hodge , George Evans , Brett Blizzard , Eric Manor , Charles Jenkins and Justin Wright-Forman received this award several times, and Robinson and Evans received it three times. Only once did two players immediately become the owners of this award (1983). More often than others, the winners of this prize were basketball players at George Mason University and Hofstra University (6 times), Old Dominion University and the University of Virginia (4 times).
