Biography
He was born on September 2, 1893 in the village of Chirikovo now in the Urzhum district of the Kirov region in a peasant family. Russian Since childhood, he lived in the city of Odessa . He graduated from 8 classes. Before conscription, he worked as a shoemaker.
In the army of A.I. Ratov since 1918. Member of the 1st World War and Civil War. In 1925 he graduated from an artillery school. He took part in the armed conflict near Lake Hassan , the liberation campaign in Western Ukraine and Western Belarus and the Soviet-Finnish War .
On the fronts of World War II from June 1941. Colonel A. I. Ratov, commander of the 4th Guards Cannon Artillery Regiment of the 9th Artillery Division of the 1st Guards Army of the South-Western Front of the Guards, during defensive battles on the Mius River in February 1943, skillfully controlled the fire of his regiment, thereby contributing to the retention positions.
The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the USSR of March 7, 1943.
From April 1943 until the end of the war, Colonel Ratov was the commander of the 9th artillery division of the breakthrough of the Reserve of the High Command on the South-Western and 3rd Ukrainian Fronts. Member of RaisinBarvenkovskaya, Donbass, Zaporizhzhya, Nikopol-Krivorozh, Bereznegovato-Snigirevskaya, Odessa, Iasi-Kishinev, Bucharest-Arad, Belgrade, Budapest offensive and Balaton defensive, Vienna offensive operations. Towards Victory, his division was called the Zaporizhzhya Red Banner Order of Suvorov 9th artillery division of the breakthrough of the RGK, 15 times it was called in the orders of the Supreme Commander.
In 1946, Major General of Artillery A.I. Ratov graduated from the Higher Artillery Courses at the F.E.Dzerzhinsky Military Academy . He served in command posts in the Soviet army . He left the reserve in 1953 from the post of deputy artillery commander of the Tauride Military District . Since 1955, Major General A.I. Ratov has been retired. He lived in Odessa. He died on June 30, 1978. He was buried in Odessa at the 2nd Christian cemetery.
