The Vitebsk Regional Museum of the Hero of the Soviet Union Minay Filippovich Shmyrev was created in Vitebsk according to the order of the Council of Ministers of the BSSR of February 1, 1966 and the order of the Ministry of Culture of the BSSR of March 24, 1966 "On the opening and organization of the memorial museum of the Hero of the Soviet Union M.F. Shmyrev " like a city. By a decision of the Executive Committee of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Workers' Deputies dated December 26, 1968 , the city museum was transformed into a regional museum. It was opened on July 5, 1969 , during the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders in the building of the former shelter of retired officials named after K. D. Golembiovsky (late XIX - early XX centuries ). The museum was managed by I.I.Simankov, N.V. Semeshina. Since 2002 , the director I.A. Shishkova.

Exposition
The main fund of the museum ( 2013 ) totals 8758 units. storage, scientific and auxiliary - 1343 units. The museum consists of 4 exhibition halls with a total area of 223 m² and an exhibition area of 39 m². The continuation of the exposition is a memorial park located next to the museum building. In the park, a sculptural bust of MF Shmyrev (sculptor Z. Azgur ) was installed , the Rail War model, artillery pieces, and partisan dugouts were built.
Hall One
The museum stores collections of weapons, household items, documents, fine art , faleristics , print media, film and photo documents. In the 1st hall, the materials of the exposition tell about the childhood and youth of M.F. Shmyrev, his labor and social activities in the pre-war period, the organization of the partisan movement in the territory of the former Surazh district during the Great Patriotic War , the creation of the 1st Belarusian partisan brigade.
Second Hall
The exposition of the 2nd hall is dedicated to the further expansion of the partisan movement in Belarus, the creation on the basis of the 1st Belorussian partisan brigade of new partisan formations (brigade named after the Red Banner Lenin Komsomol and the 1st Vitebsk partisan brigade). Here are materials on the interaction of partisans and pilots of the 105th Separate Guards Order of Alexander Nevsky of the Ponevezh Aviation Regiment, the liberation of Vitebsk (06/26/1944) as a result of Operation Bagration (06/23/29/08/1944) and the end of World War II.
Third Hall
Exposition 3 of the hall tells about the labor and civic activities of M.F. Shmyrev in the postwar years. It presents works of literature and art, which reflected the exploits of the partisan brigade commander, demonstrated the documentary "Old Man" and the feature film "Old Man".
Hall Four
The 4th hall exposition presents the interior of MF Shmyrev’s office with furniture, books, personal items, hunting equipment, documents and photographs of enterprises, educational institutions, and objects bearing the name of MF Shmyrev.
