John Lee Baldwin ( born John Lee Baldwin ; August 26, 1949 , Detroit ) is an American mid-weight boxer . In the late 1960s, he played for the US national team: bronze medalist of the Summer Olympic Games in Mexico City, a participant in many international tournaments and national championships. In the period 1970-1979 he boxed on a professional level, but without special achievements.

Biography
John Baldwin was born August 26, 1949 in Detroit , Michigan . The first serious success in the ring was achieved at the age of seventeen, when he became the champion of the Michigan championship in the first middle weight. Two years later, he repeated this achievement and took second place in the US amateur championship. Thanks to a series of successful performances, he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City - he managed to reach the stage of the semi-finals here, after which he lost to Cuban Rolando Garbey with a score of 1: 4. Having received a bronze Olympic medal, he decided to try himself among professionals and for this purpose he moved permanently to Houston .
Baldwin's professional debut took place in March 1970, he knocked out his first rival George Force in the first round. Over the next five years, he spent many successful fights, became the champion of Texas in the middleweight division. The first defeat was in December 1975, by unanimous decision of the judges from the future world champion Marvin Hagler . From that moment on, his career declined sharply, the class of rivals declined, as did the position in world ratings. In 1978, John Baldwin met with such famous boxers as Ayub Kalule and Marvin Johnson , but lost both times. Then, in 1979, the Mexican David Cabrera defeated by knockout, after which Baldwin decided to end his career as an athlete. In total, in professional boxing, he spent 38 fights, 32 of which he won (including 22 ahead of schedule), lost 5 times, one match was declared invalid.
