Career
The nickname "Tiny" was assigned to the athlete, since in his childhood he competed with cyclists of older ages.
During World War II he served in the ranks of the Royal Artillery in North Africa and Italy, during these years he became friends with the Italian champion Olympio Bizzi. Inspired by his experience, he returned to cycling after the return of England and gained a reputation as a strong finisher. It was this circumstance that helped him to bring the UK team to second place in the road team race at the Summer Olympic Games in London (1948). In the individual race finished eighth.
Having turned into professionals, he briefly played for the BSA team, with whom he won the Tour of Britain in 1953. Having completed his sports career, he began to trade in wool.
