History
The Almanac was founded in 1959 . [1] The first issue was published in June 1960. Originally published in a print run of 6,000 copies. [one]
As Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeev) noted: “In Soviet times, starting in 1960, it was, in fact, the only theological body that came out under the auspices of the Russian Orthodox Church. Although it was not widely distributed, each new issue of the collection became a real event for the church community and, of course, for church academic circles ” [2]
In 1988, on the anniversary of the celebration of the 1000th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia, the circulation of "Theological Works" reached 30,000 copies. [one]
The almanac publishes modern theologians (mainly teachers of Orthodox theological schools), also publishes the writings of the Church Fathers and the works of prominent religious thinkers of past centuries. [1] The subject matter here addresses issues of dogmatic theology and patristics , church history , liturgics , hagiography , canon law , etc. [3]
