Play career
Born in Lac-a-la-Tortu ( Quebec ), in a large family, in which besides him there were 11 more children. After his family moved to Shavinigan , he began to play for the school hockey team and succeeded in the role of a hammered forward.
Montreal Canadiens , who had the first choice of players in Quebec, showed no interest in the young player, while Detroit Red Wings took interest in Pronovo and invited him to the Worsor Spitfires junior team of the Ontario Hockey Association, where he was retrained as a defender .
At the end of the 1949/50 season, Gordie Howe was injured and, after Red Kelly was transferred to the attack, Pronno, speaking at the time for Omaha Knights (USCL), was invited to the place of Kelly in the defense of Detroit to participate in playoff games. Thus Pronovo won his first Stanley Cup , not having a single match in the regular season. Over the next 5 years, Prno in the Detroit lineup won the Stanley Cup three more times.
In 1965, Pronovo was exchanged for the Toronto Maple Leafs team, with which in 1967 he won his fifth Stanley Cup. After seven games played in the 1969/70 season , Pronovo decided to end his career in the NHL .
In 1978, Marcel Pronovo was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto .
