The governor of Iowa is the head of the executive branch of government, government, and the high command of the armed forces of the state of Iowa [2] . The governor is required to comply with state laws, approve or reject laws passed by the [3] , convene the legislature at any time, and use the right to pardon , except in cases of treason or impeachment [4] .

The governor is elected for a four-year term, which begins on Tuesday after the second Monday of January after the elections. In the past, the governor’s tenure was two years, but this was changed by a constitutional amendment in 1972. The elected governor is considered to be a person at least 30 years old and prescribed in Iowa for at least 2 years. The vice-governor is elected for the same term as the governor. If the post of governor becomes vacant, the vice-governor becomes the governor for the remaining term. Currently, the governor is not limited by the duration of his tenure.

The Iowa Territory was formed on July 4, 1838, by separation from Wisconsin territory . During its existence, the territory was governed by 3 governors appointed by the president . Robert Lucas took up his duties only six weeks after the creation of the territory of Iowa, so during this period, William Conway was the acting governor [5] .
