His first dramatic works were unsuccessful: Wycieczka za granicę ( 1872 ), Z postępem ( 1874 ), Złe ziarno ( 1876 ). A significant step forward was already represented by the following works of Zalewski: “Spudłowali”, “Dama trefłowa”, “Pani podkomórzyna”, “Artykuł 264”. Starting with the comedies Górą nasi and Friebe, the author set foot on the road of easy social satire. His best comedy Friebe depicts a bourgeois milieu whose representatives, despite all the talk about balance, banks, bills, etc., lead the same empty and frivolous life as the nobility . He also wrote comedies: “Lis w kurniku” and “Nasi zięciowie” and the historical drama “Marco Foscarini”.
Zalewski was editor of the Wiek newspaper in 1875 and held conservative views.
