“ Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins ” ( Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins ) is a cartoon released by Threshold Entertainment in 1995 [2] , a few months before the premiere of the first movie, Mortal Kombat . When it was created, traditional 2D animation was used, and motion capture technologies and computer graphics were used to tell about the origin of the main characters.

Story
Three selected warriors who find themselves on a mysterious ship set sail to take part in the Mortal Kombat tournament and protect humanity from extraterrestrial invasion. During the voyage, Liu Kang , Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade meet with Ryden , who gives them advice on how to survive in the early stages of the tournament, defeat Shan Zong and his army of minions. Already on the island, where the tournament actually takes place, Ryden retells between the fights the origins of Shan Zong, Goro , the Great Kun Lao , Scorpio and the elder Sub-Ziro .

The reviewer of the magazine " Great Dragon " notes that the cartoon used special effects, which are usually found in video games, as well as in science fiction films [4] .
