History
The settlement from which the city later grew was founded in 1807 . The municipality of Granada was allocated to a separate administrative unit in 1817 .
Geographical position
The city is located in the southeastern part of the department, in the mountainous terrain of the Central Cordillera , approximately 40 kilometers east of Medellín , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 2137 meters above sea level [1] .
The municipality of Granada is bordered in the north by the municipalities of El Penol and Guatape , in the north-west by the municipality of Marinilla , in the west by the municipalities of El Santuario and Kokorn , in the east by the municipalities of San Luis and San Carlos . The area of the municipality is 195 km² [2] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2012 was 9,838 people [3] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by year:

According to the 2005 census, men made up 48.4% of the population of Granada, women - respectively 51.6%. Racially whites and mestizos accounted for 99.7% of the city’s population; Blacks , mulattoes, and Riesale - 0.3% [4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 90%.
Economy
The basis of the economy of Granada is agricultural production .
51.3% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are enterprises of the trade sector, 36.2% - enterprises in the service sector, 6% - industrial enterprises, 6.5% - enterprises of other sectors of the economy [4] .
