The Union Assembly of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia ( Saupna Skupstina ) is the name of the Parliament of Yugoslavia in 1992-2006. It consisted of two chambers - the Council of the Republics (the whole republic ) and the Council of Citizens (the whole country ). Established by the 1992 Constitution, replacing the Assembly of the SFRY . In 1963-1974, the body of the same name existed, but it was not a people's representative body , but a corporate representative body consisting of five chambers elected by corporate bodies (“commonwealths” in the 1963 Constitution).
The first Council of Citizens was elected on May 31, 1992, but the electoral law in force at that time did not suit some of the large parties, so re-elections were held on December 20, 1992. This convocation of the Council of Citizens lasted until the next election on November 3, 1996. The next and last Council of Citizens was elected on September 24, 2000, on the same day the first and last direct elections to the Council of Republics and the President were held. February 4, 2003 self-dissolved.
It was elected by the people for a term of 4 years, according to the following principle - 20 deputies from each republic to the Council of the Republics and 1 out of 65,000 voters to the Council of Citizens.
