Somewhat sad sunset is written in thick paint. Several works by Kuindzhi, as if concentrating his elegiac worldview, also belong to this time. Thick purple is crushed by light yellow or orange. These unusually beautiful and natural color combinations match the real nature of sunlight. After Aivazovsky, the artist can be considered the most significant "sun worshiper."
I. N. Kramskoy wrote:
| The moon and the sun themselves are not a subject for painting. ” “But,” he said of Kuindzhi’s works, “looking at such paintings, I can become better, kinder, healthier.” |
