Gray, Maurice Abraham

Gray Moris Abraham ( born Gray Morris Abraham ; May 16, 1889 , Gorodets , Mogilev Province - January 22, 1966 , Winnipeg ) is a Canadian politician. The figure of the Zionist movement of Canada .

Biography

Gray Maurice Abraham (née Moishe Gurarie ) was born in the town of Gorodets in the Mogilev province in the family of Abram and Sarah Gurarie. In 1907 he emigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg , where he opened a travel agency.
Gray was the founder of the Canadian Jewish Congress (Canadian Jewish Congress), for some time he served as honorary vice president of the organization.
In the period from 1926 to 1930 he was on the board of the Winnipeg school board, in 1931-42 a member of the city council. In 1941, he was elected to the state legislature of Manitoba as a member of the Cooperative Union of the State and its successor, the New Democratic Party.
Founder of the Canadian Service for Jewish Emigrants. He served as chairman of the Zionist Labor Organization and chairman of the Society for Relations of Western Canada with the Israeli Labor Party.
