Jan (Johann) Zacharias Frey (June 1769, Vienna - August 8, 1829, Warsaw) - Polish painter, illustrator and engraver of Austrian origin.

Biography
Born in the family of an Austrian army officer.
He studied painting at the Vienna Imperial Academy of Fine Arts , later in London with Benjamin West . Around 1794 he arrived in Poland.
At the invitation of Prince Adam Czartoryski arrived in Pulawy. He painted numerous portraits of members of the magnate family of the Czartoryski . He created, among other things, 13 engravings with views of their palaces, estates and park of Princess Isabella Czartoryska, daughter of Podskarbia of the great Lithuanian and governor of the Pomeranian Count Jan Jerzy Fleming . He created 28 engravings for the book by Isabella Czartoryski on “Different Thoughts on the Art of Creating Gardens”, published in 1805 by Wilhelm Gottlieb Korn in Wroclaw (2nd edition 1807).
In 1804 he became a court painter and engraver of the son of Prince Adam Jerzy Czartoryski .
In 1805 he moved to Warsaw, where he remained until the end of his life. In 1806, he created a series of etchings depicting the ruins of castles, views of cities, palaces and residential buildings, which were included in the art album of Z. Vogel 's Collection of Views of the Most Famous National Monuments in Poland, 1806 ( Zbiór widoków sławniejszych pamiątek narodowych w Polsce. 1806 ")
He illustrated the work of the Polish scientist Stanislav Staszice “On the mineral wealth of the Carpathians and other mountains and plains of Poland”, as well as the song collection of Yulian Nemtsevich and composer Karol Kurpinsky “Historical songs”.
In addition to artistic activity, as an engraver and watercolor painter, he taught at the monastery school of public relations .
He died in Warsaw and was buried in the Evangelical Reformed cemetery.
