Description

The castle was built on the site of an ancient settlement from the Dnieper-Dvina culture and Kievan Rus . Its site measuring 75x50 meters was surrounded by a rampart: from the side of the lake, 1-1.5 meters high, and from the island - about 5 meters. During the X-XVI centuries, the ancient core of the castle was sprinkled four times with stones simultaneously paved with slopes. Two bridges connected the castle shore. Near the castle on the island was the town of Drisvyaty with a market and three streets [1] .

At the end of the XIV - beginning of the XV centuries, the courtyard of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Vytautas stood on the island, later - the Grand Duke Alexander . Since 1542, it was owned by Yan Yurievich Glebovich . The description of the castle from 1662 has survived: “on the mountain above Lake Drisvyatsky there are 3 towers without roofs that have settled, decayed, there are few walls on the side of the farm , but those are rotten and are destroyed” [2] .

The castle ceased to exist in the second half of the XVII century. Soon after the fire, residents moved the place from the island to the eastern shore of the lake.

To date, only the castle has survived from the castle . His archaeological research was carried out in 1955-1956 by Leonid Alekseev , in 1970, 1976 and 1980 by Mikhail Tkachev .
