Biography

Petr Kudar was born on October 5, 1913 in the village of Novoalekseevka (now the Primorsky district of the Zaporizhzhya region of Ukraine ). After graduating from the Berdyansk Industrial College, he worked as a technician in the city of Svatovo, Voroshilovgrad region of the Ukrainian SSR . In 1935, Kudar was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1938, he graduated from the Chuguev Military Aviation School of Pilots [1] .

Since August 1941 - on the fronts of World War II, he commanded a squadron of the 249th fighter air regiment of the 44th fighter air division of the 6th Army of the South-Western Front . Participating in the battle for Moscow , made 155 sorties for attack, aerial reconnaissance, escorting aircraft, and patrolling. As a result of the attacks he carried out, 12 tanks, 150 vehicles, about 5 artillery pieces, 80 horse carts, about 800 enemy soldiers and officers were destroyed. In two months of fighting, the Kudar squadron made 431 sorties, inflicting heavy losses on German troops. On October 30, 1941, during a combat mission, Kudar’s plane was shot down, and the pilot himself was seriously wounded. Kudar managed to bring the plane to his airfield, but he died during landing [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of November 20, 1941, for “exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the struggle against the German invaders and shown courage and heroism”, Lieutenant Pyotr Kudar was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Orders of Lenin and the Red Banner [1] .

Memory

  • In honor of Kudar, a monument was erected in Svatovo and a bust in Novoalekseevka [1] .
  • In the repertoire of the folklore groups of Novoalekseyevka there is a song “Mother Sowed a Little White Sand in the Ground” ( Ukrainian mother sowed a little white sand in the Ground ), dedicated to Peter Kudar [2] .
