Biography
Leonid Kuversky was born on December 4, 1938 in Daugavpils . He graduated from high school. In 1957, Kuversky was called up for service in the Navy of the USSR. In 1962, he graduated from the Pacific Higher Naval School. He served in the submarines of the Northern Fleet . He took part in five long trips with a total duration of more than 90 days. In 1972, Kuversky graduated from the Higher Special Classes of the Navy of the USSR [1] .
Since September 1977, Captain 1st Rank Leonid Kuversky commanded the K-447 strategic nuclear missile submarine cruiser. Under his leadership, the crew carried out combat patrols in difficult conditions of the northern seas. In June-July 1981, as part of a tactical group, the Kuversky submarine took part in conducting tests to determine the possibility of using missile weapons in the Arctic, during which it passed to the northern part of the Barents Sea and accurately hit targets in the Pacific [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 9, 1981 for “courage and bravery shown in the performance of a special command assignment,” Captain 1st Rank Leonid Kuversky was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal [1] .
In 1984, Kuversky graduated from the Naval Academy . In August 1989, he was sacked. Currently lives in St. Petersburg , works at the Navy Research Institute [1] .
He was also awarded the orders of the Red Star and "For Service to the Homeland in the Armed Forces of the USSR" 3rd degree, a number of medals [1] .
