Branchiomycosis ( lat. Branchiomycosis ) - mycosis of pond fish that affects the blood vessels of the gills , leading to gill necrosis and mass death of fish. Often found in fish farms on the European continent . The causative agents of the disease are the parasitic fungi Branchiomyces demigrans and Branchiomyces sangunis. (According to some researchers, these two species are identical.) Diseases are susceptible to carps , carp, and their hybrids, minnows , crucian carp , pike , tench , trout . The treatment of the disease has not been developed.
The course and symptoms of the disease
At the beginning of the disease, the fish stop feeding. Due to the difficulty of gas exchange, sick fish approach the surface layers of water, swallow air, swim sluggishly off the coast, without reacting to the approach of people or animals to them. The acute course of the disease is characterized by hemorrhagic inflammation of the gills. The subacute course is characterized by necrotic decay of the gill apparatus. In a chronic course, pathological changes are very weakly expressed. Occasionally, necrosis of small sections of gills is noted. [one]
