Olivinitis

Olivinite is an igneous plutonic rock of ultrabasic composition , of a normal alkalinity series from the olivinite family. More than 90% consists of olivine with an admixture of magnetite , this differs olivinite from dunite , in which chromite is present instead of magnetite. A small amount in olivinite may contain impurities of pyroxenes ( clinopyroxene , orthopyroxene ), plagioclase , etc. The color of olive is dark gray, sometimes yellow, gray-green or brown.

The average chemical composition: SiO 2 35-41%, TiO 2 0.2-1.7%, Al 2 O 3 0.2-2%, Fe 2 O 3 4-10%, FeO 6-12%, MgO 37-48%, CaO 0.2 -2%, Na 2 O up to 0.5%, K 2 O up to 0.6%. [one]

Physical Properties

Density of olivinite 3.21 - 4.34 g / cm 3
