History
The development of hockey in Hungary began with hobby hockey. The first bandy team was created in 1905 , and the first match was held in 1907 . Later an international tournament was organized with the participation of teams from Budapest, Vienna, Prague and Berlin.
In Hungary, hockey began to play after the First World War. In 1926, the first outdoor artificial ice rink was built in Budapest - the “Stadion Varoshliget”. The most important role in the development of hockey was played by the Budapest Ski Club (BKE), which previously had a strong hockey team. In December 1925, the club held the first international hockey match. The home team gave the hockey players of Vienna - 0: 1.
In the 30s. Hungarian hockey players reached the leading positions in European hockey, and goalkeeper I. Hirchak was one of the best on the continent. But the lack of skating rinks with artificial ice in conditions of a mild and short winter restrained the growth of skills of Hungarian hockey players [4] .
Hungarian Ice Hockey Championships
The first national championship was held in 1937. The championship system was changed several times. In the 70s. 4–6 teams played in 4–6 laps in the 1980s. - 3 clubs playing 8-10 laps.
Now, at the preliminary stage, 6 teams play in 2 circles. The two best players immediately get the right to play in the third stage, and the winners of the 3-6th places determine two more participants of the two-round tournament. After a two-round tournament in the newly formed four, the series for gold and bronze is held.
