Gabriel Melkonyan Alves ( Spanish: José Gabriel Melconian Alvez ; born July 7, 1987 , Montevideo , Uruguay ) is a Uruguayan swimmer. It specializes in swimming at distances of 50 and 100 meters [1] .

It has Armenian roots.
He made his debut as a member of the national team at the 2007 World Championships in the 50 meters freestyle and butterfly 50 meters [2] .
At the 2011 Pan American Games, he reached Olympic time [3] . The following year, he participated in the Olympic Games in London at 100 meters and came 35th [4] .
His coach is Javier Golovchenko [5] .
