History
In the second half of the 1970s, the Calcutta authorities, in addition to the already existing tram system in the city, decided to open a trolleybus service. In this regard, the government of West Bengal places an order with BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd) for the creation of a trolleybus for Calcutta. As a result, on a 12-ton Tata chassis, Starline Motors manufactured the body of a trolley bus, in which the fasteners, exterior trim and individual parts were interchangeable with tram assemblies, which made it possible to unify the new car with rail transport [1] . The opening of the line took place on January 1, 1977 .
Routes
There was one route in the city, the length of which was only 1 kilometer.
System Closure
Due to the absence of any comprehensive program for the development of public transport in Kolkata at that time, the trolleybus line was not able to get development and in 1982 the trolleybus movement officially ceased to exist [1] .
