Hypoplasia syndrome of the left heart

Syndrome of left heart hypoplasia (GLOS) or hypoplasia of the left heart ( English Hypoplastic left heart syndrome ) is a clinical syndrome characterized by the presence of congenital heart defects such as moderate or severe hypoplasia or atresia of the mitral valve , left ventricle, aortic valve and various degree of hypoplasia of the ascending aorta .

Since systemic ejection depends entirely on the right ventricle through the open arterial duct (OAI) into the aorta , patients die due to the closure of OAA in the first days or weeks of life [3] .

According to the National Birth Defect Prevention Network , birth defects occur in about three percent of babies born alive in the United States. Among these defects, CVD occurs on average in one of 4,344 newborns, which makes a total of about 960 newborns every year in the United States [4] [5] [6] .
