Ministry of Transport of Latvia

The Ministry of Transport of Latvia ( Latvian. Latvijas Republikas Satiksmes ministrija ) is one of the ministries of Latvia . It is located in Riga on Gogol Street , 3. [1] For 2019, the head of the ministry is Talis Linkits .

The Ministry of Transport is the main public administration institution in the transport and communications industry.

The transport industry includes such sub-sectors as rail, road, shipping and aviation, as well as passenger transport, transit and dangerous goods. The sub-sector of automobile communication includes the sphere of motor transport, motor roads and road safety. The communications industry includes electronic communications sub-sectors (including communication and data transmission channels of the general government) and mail.

Ministry Functions

  1. Determining the policies of the transport and communications industry through the development of draft policy planning documents, as well as the supervision of the implementation of the planning documents stipulated by the documents;
  2. Development of draft legal regulations of the transport and communications industry;
  3. Representation of state interests and cooperation with European Union institutions and international institutions and third countries;
  4. Planning of budget programs included in the law on the state budget for the next year;
  5. Ensuring long-term and effective management of the transport and communications industry;
  6. Legal support of the transport and communications industry;
  7. Supervision of subordinate institutions of the transport industry;
  8. Management of shares of state capital in industrial capital companies;
  9. Real estate management of the transport and communications industry;
  10. Ensuring safe and efficient use of the airspace of the Republic of Latvia.
