Saint Bonit, or Bonnet, was born in Auvergne ( France ). He became chancellor under King Sigibert III of Australia . Then, in 667 under Theodoric III , he was appointed ruler of Marseilles . In 689, he was appointed bishop of Clermont , but resigned due to doubts about the legality of the election. After this, Saint Bonit began to live alone and led a reclusive life in the monastery of Manglieu , in Clermont. Saint Bonitus died in Lyon on his return from pilgrimage to Rome .
Bonit is considered the patron saint of the Italian city of Bonito .
