Rainer, Chuck

Claude Earl Rayner ( born Claude Earl "Chuck" Rayner , August 11, 1920 , Sutherland, Saskatchewan , Canada - October 5, 2002 ) is a former Canadian hockey player , goalkeeper . He spent 10 seasons in the National Hockey League , played for the teams β€œ New York Americans ” and β€œ New York Rangers ”.

Game career

Chuck Rainer was born in Sutherland ( Saskatchewan ), where he began his hockey career in the local junior hockey league in the Saskatoon Wesleys team. In 1940, he signed his first professional contract with the New York Americans club, but spent most of the season with the Springfield Indian team in the American Hockey League at the Americans Farm Club.

In 1942, Reiner was called up to serve in the Royal Navy of Canada . After the end of World War II, he returned to hockey and, as a free agent, signed a contract with the New York Rangers club, where in 1950 he became the owner of the Hart Trophy , as the most valuable player in the regular NHL championship.

In 1953, he lost the position of the main Rangers goalkeeper Lorne Worsley and was forced to join the Saskatoon Quakers Western Hockey League team. After 2 years spent in the junior hockey leagues, he completed his career.

In 1973, Chuck Rainer was inducted into the Toronto Hockey Hall of Fame .
